The rug industry got a psychological boost with the successful markets in Atlanta and Las Vegas. A psychological boost is good. It clears the brain and loosens the wallet. But reality still lurks in the dreary February and March days ahead.

LAS VEGAS -- As the Las Vegas Market pushes into its second day, the market momentum keeps rolling. Both vendors and retailers seemed confident that the nation is pulling out of the recessionary doldrums. The fact that the Surfaces Floor Covering Expo is being held concurrently also helped retailer traffic.
NEW YORK INTERNATIONAL GIFT FAIR PLANS MAJOR REORGANIZATION FOR 2013
NEW YORK – The New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) will undergo a series of changes to product categories and layout over the next three years, according to George Little Management (GLM), the show's organizer.
LAS VEGAS – World Market Center Las Vegas saw an increase in attendance during the Las Vegas Market, February 1 to 5, compared to Winter market attendance last year. This year's event also attracted nearly 100 new exhibitors, according to Robert Maricich, president and chief executive officer of World Market Center Las Vegas.
LAS VEGAS -- Buyers attending Las Vegas market were coming off an improved fourth quarter. They were looking for unique looks and interesting textures at value-oriented price points in the $199 to $599 range.
WHITE PLAINS, NY – The Winter 2010 edition of the New York International Gift Fair (NYIGF) reported a double-digit increase in attendance and order-writing, according to George Little Management (GLM), organizer of the fair. According to GLM, these levels have not been seen since early 2008.

HOME DEPOT REPORTS FOURTH QUARTER AND FISCAL 2009 EARNINGS; PROVIDES FISCAL 2010 OUTLOOK
ATLANTA – The Home Depot reported sales for the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009 of $14.6 billion, a 0.3% decrease from the fourth quarter of fiscal 2008. Total company comparable store sales for the fourth quarter grew 1.2%. Comparable store sales for U.S. stores were down 1.1%.
