RUG INDUSTRY THINK TANK PARTICIPANTS BRAIN STORM IDEAS TO FIGHT RECESSION

NEW YORK --Several of the participants at the industry's first Think Tank meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 24 described the current economic climate as a "perfect storm." But as the historic two-hour meeting progressed, it became clear that the Think Tank itself had become a "perfect brain storm" of ideas with the potential to profoundly change the rug business, both for the near term and over the long range.

Surfaces Expo Business Report: FEW RUG VENDORS AT SURFACES; MOST SHOWING BROADLOOM

LAS VEGAS – Rug vendors were few and far between at this year’s Surfaces Floor Covering Expo. Most of the rug companies showing this year were here to sell broadloom carpeting. Rugs were either missing or of secondary importance in the exhibits of Nourison, Oriental Weavers, Couristan, Kane, Radici and Dynamic.

LAS VEGAS – Opening day traffic was on the light side at the Las Vegas World Market Center, but there were enough retailers on hand to make a successful market for rug vendors.
LAS VEGAS MARKET TRAFFIC OFF 2% BUT IT'S BETTER THAN EXPECTED
LAS VEGAS – Opening day attendance was down 2% at the World Market Center Winter event. The turnout was better than expected, according to WMC management. The figure compared this week's event with last year's World Market, held in January 2008. There were 6,527 new buyers visiting Las Vegas Market for the first time this week.

DOMOTEX ASIA/CHINAFLOOR 2009 SET FOR MARCH 24 TO MARCH 26
SHANGHI, CHINA – The 11th edition of Domotex Asia/Chinafloor will take place March 24 to 26, 2009. The event will occupy 8.5 halls covering 97,750 square meters (1,052,181 sq. ft.) at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. An estimated 1,100 exhibitors from Asia and abroad will be present as well as more than 42,000 professional visitors and buyers from China and other countries.
DUBAI, U.A.E. – Domotex Middle East is scheduled for May 17 to 19, 2009 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Center. Over 6,400 visitors are expected to attend the flooringe exposition.
