Do we need a new way to define our industry? The direction that many companies have taken in the past five to 10 years has made the term "rug business" seem terribly outdated. Major wholesalers no longer sell rugs exclusively. They sell rugs. And pillows. And furniture. And lamps And accent furniture. And throws. And top-of-the-bed. And broadloom carpeting. And hospitality carpeting. And various other doo-dads.

CALHOUN, GA. -- Surya will offer a number of products in a full range of purple hues, including luminous purples, orchids and violets as well as bold fuchsias, and softer shades such as lavender and mauve. Surya’s design team had anticipated the shift towards more vibrant and dimensional hues such as Radiant Orchid, Pantone's Color of the Year for 2014, according to Lynne Meredith, vice president of product development.
ORIA ELECTS MOMENI PRESIDENT; OTHER NEW OFFICERS FOR 2014
NEW YORK – The Oriental Rug Importers Association (ORIA) has elected a new slate of officers during its recent annual meeting, according to Lucille Laufer, executive director of ORIA. The new officers are: Reza Momeni of Momeni, president; Kami Navid of Jaunty, vice-president; Behrooz Hakimian of Woven Concepts, treasurer; and Ramin Kalaty of Kalaty, secretary. They will assume their new positions on January 1, 2014.

Top rug industry stories appearing on www.rugnews.com in 2013 point to an exciting future for the rug and home industry in 2014. The most important development of 2013 -- by far -- has been the shift of the business to embrace not only rugs but all forms of home fashions. In 2013, we also saw new marketing approaches, continued growth of licensing programs and of course, the ever-changing game of executive musical chairs. We also saw that classic Oriental Rugs are not dead at all as a record-setting auction of antique rugs made the entire world aware once again of the eternal beauty of classic rugs.

The company is expected to invest more than $170 million in the facility, including the latest technology in material handling equipment and warehouse management systems.
