Why do some folks in our business persist in calling themselves "Oriental Rug" specialists? It's a fusty, dusty, old-fashioned term that does not accurately describe the modern rug business at any level --design, price, construction or country of origin.
Letter to the Editor: TV HOME DECORATING PROGRAMS DON'T SHOW ENOUGH RUGS
The area rug market at every price point is very soft and no one can figure out why, but my customers have been telling me the same thing. Everyone watches HGTV and they seem to promote the "minimalist" look so customers want hardwood floors, ceramic tile and no rugs -- no clutter..just like HGTV where they rarely show rugs in room settings.

NY NOW TO SHOWCASE TRENDS AT 'OPEN HOUSE' EXHIBIT WHITE PLAINS, NY – NY NOW (formerly the NYIGF) will showcase four key home design trends for 2013-2014, ranging from vintage to neo-traditional. The trends will be shown at the “Open House” exhibit, at the New York Jacob K. Javits Convention Center, August 17 to 21.

NEW YORK -- Rug vendors brought their A-games to this Spring's International Contemporary Furnituire Fair May 18 to 20 at New York's Jacob Javits Center. While the rest of the show fell fairly flat, the rugs on display were innovative, colorful and in some cases, downright revolutionary.
TUPELO, MS – Several rug vendors will showcase new products during the Tupelo Furniture Market August 15 to 18, 2013. More than 500 exhibitors are expected at this Summer's market, according to show organizers.
LAS VEGAS – Retailer and designer registration for the Summer 2013 Las Vegas Market is now open. Registration for exhibitors, manufacturer representatives and media will open June 4, 2013. The market runs July 29 to Aug. 2, 2013.

MACY’S REPORTS SALES INCREASE OF 28% OVER LAST YEAR
CINCINNATI – Macy’s reported higher sales and earnings for the first quarter of 2013, the 13-week period ended May 4, 2013. Based on the ongoing momentum, the company also announced a 25% percent increase in its dividend on common stock and a $1.5 billion increase in its share repurchase authorization.
CINCINNATI – Macy’s, Inc. announced it will close its downtown St. Louis store in the Railway Exchange Building at 601 Olive St. A final clearance sale will begin on Sunday, June 2, and is expected to run for approximately 10 weeks. Associates displaced by the closings may be offered positions in nearby stores and facilities where possible.

MACY’S BEGINS SECOND PHASE OF HERALD SQUARE RENOVATION
NEW YORK – Macy’s has begun the second phase of a four-year renovation of its historic Herald Square store.
