TEHRAN -- More than 1,200 Iranian women have begun weaving a giant carpet worth $8.5 million. When completed, it will be the world's largest hand-knotted rug, according to Iran Carpet Co., which is the contractor.

NEW YORK -- The Nazmiyal Collection has acquired a late 19th Century Zeigler Sultanabad rug that once graced the dining room of Sigmund Freud's home in London. The 12'9" x 16'7" rug is valued at approximately $250,000.

I meant to breeze in and out in one afternoon, but instead I spent 2 ½ days at last week's International Contemporary Furniture Fair in New York's Jacob Javits Center. It was by far the most interesting show I've attended this year.

Steve's Flokati was a big success with American tourists in Greece back in the late 70's and early 80's. That young hunk in this 1979 picture is Steve Mazarakis in his early 20's. Steve's Flokati morphed into Hellenic Rug Imports, a major U.S. importer. Mazarakis, now an old hunk, is president.
