HIGH POINT -- The smiles at this week's High Point Market seemed genuine, not forced, as rug and home furnishings retailers entered the fourth quarter on a strong note. The most striking aspects of the market were bold colors, a move away from the bottom part of the price spectrum and continued dominance of contemporary and transitional design. And pillows. THOUSANDS of pillows. In general, High Point was filled excitement, energy and optimism. There was little or no talk about the recent government shut-down and debt crisis, just clear focus on the year to come.

The recession whining seems to have come to an end as rug vendors report that the High Point Market was vibrant and successful. There was little talk about the recent government shut down and debt crisis. Instead, both vendors and buyers were looking forward to strong momentum going into 2014.
