    ATLANTA - A flurry of activity characterizes the lead up to next week's Atlanta International Rug Market, with rug importers and manufacturers going wide and deep in their assortments and price points. Fashion looks are up to the minute with a democracy of design that allows retailers to present their customers with the latest colors, patterns and weaves in all channels of distribution.  As in European and fashion-forward U.S. shows, the grey and blue color palettes are particularly strong in debuting lines, though RugNews.com editors are beginning to see movement toward deep saturated jewel tones.  Distressed and erased looks continue in importance and new iterations push the envelope in recreating heirloom patinas. Many of the geometric and abstract art patterns that made news at Domotex 2015 in Hannover have influenced new collections at AmericasMart showrooms as well, but in designs and palettes geared to American consumers.

    ATLANTA - The Atlanta International Rug Market officially opened on July 8, 2015 with four ribbon cuttings - and lots of buzz centered on new showrooms of Harounian Rugs International, Rizzy Home, Caravan and Radici. The consensus for suppliers was that attendance at AmericasMart was typical for a summer market, and that the twice-yearly event is increasingly more appointment driven. Buyers in Building One shopped for the latest colors, patterns and designs, and also firmed up fourth quarter programs at all the major showrooms.

"We had a great response from buyers to our deconstructed Persian designs that look faded and vintage; the trend is becoming popular in all price points, and in every category from hand-knotted to machine loomed rugs."

    ATLANTA - AmericasMart unveiled the Portman White Vignette Gallery at The Atlanta International Gift and Home Furnishings Market this July, featuring seven acclaimed interior designers: Brian Patrick Flynn, Michelle Workman, Stan Topol, Michel Boyd, Niki Papadopoulos, Melanie Turner and Kerry Howard.     ATLANTA - Karastan brought the glamour of signed and numbered fine art prints to area rugs last week with the unveiling of Mystic Garden, its first limited edition design at the Atlanta International Rug Market. The debut created a buzz that retailers like Dave Snedeker, division merchandise manager of flooring for Nebraska Furniture Mart plan to carry through to point of sale.  "We are going to buy it [Mystic Garden] and use it as a promotional piece," said Snedeker, who RugNews.com later learned had snared rug number 1/75 - the first of only 75 rugs to be made in the Artisan series edition.

    CALHOUN, GA - Surya is inviting its customers to submit photos of their best design projects featuring Surya rugs and accessories for the chance to win up to $1,000. The Surya Spaces Contest, which runs through August 15, is intended to promote the design talent of Surya customers while also highlighting the creative ways in which the brand's products can be coordinated to build inspired spaces. This is the second round of the contest, which was first held in 2012.
