NEW YORK -- Every Spring and Fall, more rug showrooms open to woo mass-market buyers attending the New York Home Fashions Week. Whether the new showrooms are permanent or strictly on a market-to-market basis, it does signify the growth of rugs in the mass market channels of big box stores and regional furniture chains.

New York Market Week Sept. 12 to 17 created a broad sales environment for rugs at every price point from the ridiculous to the sublime. (And your individual point of view dictated what you considered to be ridiculous or sublime). In general, I would call the week a success, but why?

HINES AND SOBEL CELEBRATE 20 YEARS AS KALATY SALES REPRESENTATIVES
Seems like only yesterday that Jim Hines, second left, and Mary Lynne Sobel, second right, joined the Kalaty sales team. But it's actually been 20 years. CINCINNATI, OH – Macy's, Inc. has reported total sales of $1.638 billion for the four weeks ended Aug. 28, 2010, an increase of 6.2% compared with total sales of $1.542 billion in the four weeks ended Aug. 29, 2009. On a same-store basis, Macy's, Inc. sales were up 4.3% in August.
