|HRI OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES NEW WESLEY MANCINI LICENSE PROGRAM
HRI announces the launch of its first licensing program in collaboration with renowned fabric designer Wesley Mancini at High Point Market.
NEW YORK -- Harounian Rugs International (HRI), a 60 year old manufacturer and importer of high-end programmed area rugs, officially takes the wraps off its first licensed program with textile designer Wesley Mancini.
"We could not be more pleased with the opportunity to work with one of the leading textile designers in the country," said Lee Harounian, noting that the program will be comprised of both hand-knotted and machine-made collections. "It's very exciting to be a part of creating the new unique Mancini Area Rug Collections that are on trend with today's upholstery fabrics."
The groundwork for the partnership was already being laid last year and during the fall 2018 High Point Market, when HRI took the wraps off of its second High Point showroom, located at Market Square Tower, Suite 110AC, designed to cater to and focus on its important designer and trade business (read full story), which the Mancini assortment will target. The new space was selected because it can also welcome shoppers who attend the Showtime Market textiles show and who maybe looking for rugs in addition to fabrics.
HRI's new Market Square Tower suite displays the company's swatch samples and a small selection of full-sized rugs.
Mancini's undergraduate work was done at Philadelphia College of Art (University of the Arts) and he received his MFA in fabric design from the renowned Cranbrook Academy of Art in Michigan. In 1980, he was awarded a National Endowment for the Arts grant for his hand-woven upholstery fabric designs. In addition, his fiber art work has been shown in museums, including the Museum of Contemporary Crafts in New York; the Museum of Art at the Rhode Island School of Design; and as part of the exhibit Expanding the Field of Fiber at Cranbrook.
Mancini founded his eponymous textile design firm, Wesley Mancini Ltd. in 1983 and also launched his Home Fabrics by Wesley Mancini brand at that time. Today, his designs grace furniture by makers such as Henredon and La-Z-Boy, and is also part of collections at Kravet, Lee Jofa and Fabricut. His products can be found in major department store or home specialty retailers in the United States and abroad.
"Wesley's knowledge of textile weaving, including carpet, and his ability to design within a construction, is second to none within our industry," said David Grasse, HRI managing director, who previously developed area rug collections with Mancini. "Throughout 2019 HRI will be introducing the new Mancini Area Rug collections in both hand-knotted and machine-made constructions at major markets."
