MYERS CARPET COMPANY ACQUIRES NASHVILLE CARPET CENTER

The acquisition of Nashville Carpet Center (shown above) by Myers Carpet will result in a relocation of both Nashville stores into a much larger, combined location.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Myers Carpet Company, which has retail locations in Nashville and Atlanta and Dalton, Ga., has purchased the assets of Nashville Carpet Center and has announced plans to merge the two businesses.

According to owners Ray and Rick Myers, current plans are to relocate both Nashville Carpet Center and Myers Flooring of Nashville into a much larger facility off Sidco Drive in Nashville. The Myers family said in a statement that it will work closely with Nashville Carpet Center president Van Gilmore to make the combined carpet businesses the premiere floorcovering destination in Nashville.

Nashville Carpet Center has been a resource for carpet, rugs and flooring in the Nashville area for more than 40 years providing a wide selection of products in all price ranges.  Offerings include carpet; classic and contemporary rugs; custom rugs fabricated in-house; pre-finished hardwood floors both solid and engineered; resilient roll flooring; luxury vinyl tile; laminates and natural flooring such as cork and bamboo. "I am very pleased that our companies are coming together in the Nashville market," said Gilmore. "Each company has products and services that complement the other. So, our customers will enjoy greater selections and stronger services than ever before."

Myers Flooring, which opened in Nashville in 1998, is part of Myers Carpet Company of Dalton, GA.

Myers Carpet Company was the first, and remains the oldest carpet outlet in Dalton, Georgia, "the carpet capital of the world". The company was founded in 1957 by Gene Myers, who started buying scraps of carpet from local mills and reworking them into stair treads and small rugs, which he then sold through chenille stores on "Peacock Alley" along Georgia Highway 41.

With the help of his wife Evelyn, and later sons Rick and Ray, Myers opened Dalton's first carpet store and began offering carpet from Dalton's local mills. In 1987, Myers Carpet opened a 3,000-square-foot showroom on Peachtree Street in Atlanta, Georgia, and six years later, moved into a 35,000-square-foot showroom and warehouse on Northside Drive, still its current Atlanta location and flagship store. In 1998, Myers Flooring was opened in Nashville, followed by the purchase in 2001 of the showroom and warehouse of Division Street Carpets in downtown Nashville.

The company's current management team is made up of owners Ray and Rick Myers, controller Sandy Valleriano, Myers Carpet Atlanta manager Chris Fonville, and Myers Flooring of Nashville manager Doug Peeples.

Myers sells products from Karastan, Tuftex, Design Materials, Fibreworks, Nourison, Shaw, Mohawk, Beaulieu, Dixie Group, and Engineered Floors. The company has expanded over the years into the high-end market, becoming the largest wool carpeting retailer in the Southeast and one of the major natural fiber retailers in the country.

Part of Myers' success is that all three locations have custom rug workrooms where they cut, serge, bind and create unique, sometimes room-sized area rugs. With the acquisition of Nashville Carpet Center, Myers will offer an even wider range of products, while specializing in higher-end flooring and custom rugs.
