DALTON, GA. -- Kaleen Rugs' just-finished factory in Panipat, India, which triples its previous production capabilities, is now operational, as the company continues to do business domestically during the Covid-19 crisis.
The new facility, announced in 2018 and which replaces a smaller one, grows the company's footprint from 50,000 square feet to 300,000 square feet. It is Kaleen's third facility in India and will produce hand-loom, pit-loom, hand-tufted, jacquard-loom area rug and broadloom products.
"Our previous factory was not large enough to keep up with demand and given our growth rate, we would have soon outgrown any of the existing real estate available at that time," company COO Monty Rathi, told RugNews.com. "Kaleen decided to take our company to the next level by building a state-of-the-art factory with the same low carbon footprint that our customers have come to know. The new facilities not only have the square footage to handle our current demand, but also the space for us to expand in our offerings and handle future production."

The Panipat facility was designed with several environmentally conscious features such as a small carbon footprint and boasts eco-friendly water recycling and solar power.
The facility had just finished construction when India announced its stay-at-home nationwide lockdown. However Rathi said the company's U.S. operation continues to ship products to customers.
"For now, none of our orders will suffer as our inventory is here in the U.S.," Rathi said. "Here at Kaleen Rugs, we are doing our part to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in our community and our company. At this time, we would like to let our customers know that we will remain open until we are required to close, or the situation becomes too hazardous for our staff. We are continuing to fulfill your orders for our area rugs, custom rugs and broadloom."
FOCUS ON OUTDOOR
Kaleen introduces the new outdoor Cabo collection, machine-made of 100 percent polypropylene.
For 2020, new introductions by Kaleen indicated a major focus on expanding its outdoor area rug assortment, just releasing a digital catalog, and dramatically growing the company's broadloom range, and the debut of its all-natural Pure Life custom rug and broadloom collection in January.
"Kaleen's design direction for this season is focused on increasing our outdoor and machine-loomed collections and working on getting the word out about our new, all-natural Pure Life custom rugs and broadloom, which is now in stock," Rathi said.
As more people are forced to stay at home, outdoor spaces are becoming even more important. "From televisions and heaters to ceiling fans -- we see the outdoors mimic the indoors, and rug trends are no different," Rathi continued. "In 2020 we have seen a push in simple geometric patterns and colors as well as some more traditional-type designs, but with a distressed look. A perfect example of this would be our Tierra collection which has been inspired by the ancient art of the southern hemisphere. The designs in this collection consist of geometric patterns in soft earth tones with accents of sky blues and deep charcoals"
Kaleen just released its new 2020 outdoor area rug catalog online.
In addition, one of Kaleen's best-selling collections, Zuma Beach, which features a slightly distressed look, adds new designs. "We have taken several more classic rug designs and given them a contemporary color palette, making them the perfect choice for adding interest to any outdoor space. We have even included some new additions with slightly distressed designs in our very popular Amalie collection. This collection features more classic designs such as parrots, tropical leaves and foliage in an array of vibrant colors."
