
WAYNE, Penn. -- A memorial service has
been set for Nov. 3 for Ray Albed. Sr.at Wayne Presbyterian Church, Wayne, PA.
He was born Feb, 23, 1935 in Philadelphia and died Oct. 13, 2014 after a
long illness.
He spent his youth between
Philadelphia and Cape May, NJ where his parents had rug stores in both
locations.
From the time he was a child he
helped his father in the rug business. Ray was a 1957 graduate of Penn State
University. He was a Sigma Pi fraternity member and an active alumnus.
He was president of Albed Rug Co.
from 1960 to1999. He was president of ORRA for three terms and remained a
member of the board of directors.
Ray was founder of the first Oriental
Rug Fair in the United States.
Even after his retirement Ray
remained active in the business, consulting when needed and as a certified
appraiser.
He was very active in the Lions Club
and was a multi-term president of the Wayne, PA chapter.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley,
who he married 54 years ago..
He is also survived by children
Renee, Ray Jr., and Michelle, who have all participated in working for Albed Rug
Co.. His sister, Laurice, also works at the store as does his daughter in law,
Nancy.
He is also survived by one grandson,
Thomas.
