Capel Rugs' new hand-knotted Marmara proved a Las Vegas Market hit.
LAS VEGAS -- Capel Rugs' showroom was humming with activity at this month's Las Vegas Market. Retailers and designers shopped for dynamic new designs with strong value to meet rising demand from homebound customers looking to freshen up both their indoor and outdoor spaces.
While showroom traffic was still not back to pre-pandemic levels, Capel Rugs attracted more people than expected for the April 11-15 market, said Cameron Capel, president -- sales and marketing. "A lot of designers came in, including new designers that had never shopped us before. We also saw a good number of brick-and-mortar retailers. Their rug business has been steady, and they continue to look to us for fashion-forward designs with recognizable value that will attract shoppers to their stores."
One new design that did particularly well for Capel Rugs at market was Marmara, an October introduction being shown for the first time in Las Vegas. Sourced in India, Marmara is hand-knotted of 100 percent wool with vines of color dancing across abrash fields Each end features a one-inch fringe for extra interest. Available in four colorways -- pebble, slate blue, mushroom and onyx -- Marmara may retail for $2,399 for a 5'6" x 8'6" size.
"Marmara offers a very upscale, sophisticated look with a lovely erased, no-border design," said Capel.
Capel's popular Charise collection, hand-knotted in India of space-dyed wool, also earned high marks with market-goers.
Also receiving high marks, especially among the many West Coast designers shopping market, was Charise. A popular collection of hand-knotted casual/transitional rugs sourced from India, Charise was recently expanded with two new traditional-leaning designs. The collection of 100 percent wool, space-dyed rugs includes a total of 10 patterns and colorways. A 5x8 rug may retail for $1,199.
"Charise continues to get a lot of attention," Capel said. "With its classic motifs updated for today's lifestyles, this collection is both versatile and fashionable."
New colorways added to Avanti, a hand-tufted, all wool collection made in India, also drew kudos for Capel Rugs this market. Avanti Avondale, a traditional-leaning pattern with a thick loop pile, is now available in ivory, terra cotta and linen colorways. Avanti Bartlett, also a traditional, loop-pile design, added new biscotti, blue pearl and indigo colorways. The collection features a variety of designs, ranging from traditional and transitional to lodge and casual.
"Avanti takes inspiration from ancient Eastern and Western cultures to create a unique collection filled with personality," Capel said. A 5x8 rug may retail for $349.
Also earning new placements for Capel Rugs this market was the new Maxwell collection. Patterned after Capel’s best selling Barrister design, a high end expensive hand knot, Maxwell is a value priced machine-made rug woven with 100 percent New Zealand wool on Wilton looms. The nature-inspired "grass" design sports a lot of patterning but is flexible enough to work with a wide range of décor. Three colorways are available -- meadow, carbon and cork -- with a 5'3" x 7'10" size retailing for $799.
Capel Rugs shows during the Las Vegas Market in the World Market Center's Building A, Space A-133. The showroom is open year-round to the trade.
