ATLANTA -- C.H. Robinson, one of the world's largest logistics platforms, has launched a unique less than container load [LCL] consolidation service exclusively for area rugs and carpets, shipping weekly from Nhava Sheva, India, to New York and Atlanta.

The program, which begins its inaugural sailing the first week of March 2020, utilizes C.H. Robinson's global scale to allow rug importers and exporters to consolidate their small ocean freight shipments for better cost efficiency. The products are then delivered to their warehouse in New York within 29 days and in Atlanta in 31 days.

C.H. Robinson saw the need to add this program to their global suite of services to provide a smart solution for the unique shipping needs of their LCL customers. "It takes 1,500 to 2,000 rugs to fill a container, and a long time in India to weave that number of rugs. We know there was a need for this type of consolidation service in order to ship the rugs to the consumer quicker, especially with e-commerce and 2-day delivery expectations within the U.S.," explained Francois Wolberg, director of global textile logistics for C.H. Robinson.

In addition, the shipping industry leader is implementing an all-in rate per CBM. "We have streamlined the shipping charges to a simple rate per CBM, from the port to our dedicated freight station (CFS) in New York and Atlanta," Wolberg said.

While some companies have experimented with consolidated container shipping, often the different types products can cause damage to the area rugs. This is the first time anyone has offered a program specific to rugs and carpets.

C.H. Robinson's LCL consolidation program is one offering of their global suite of services. Their logistics services - including ocean, air, customs brokerage, trade compliance, and surface transportation -- offers customers the ability to work with one provider for all their transportation and technology needs.
