Area rug exhibitors heading to CCNY push the boundaries of design and craftsmanship with latest introductions.

NEW YORK -- COVER Connect New York returns to its popular Chelsea location and hosts more than 40 domestic and international hand-knot specialists Sept. 14-16, 2024. The fourth edition brings together a range of handcrafted rug specialists at The Metropolitan Club and the Altman building where they will introduce New York buyers to their latest fashion-forward area rug designs, featuring styles ranging from the traditional Persian or Turkish rug to ultra-modern art pieces and everything in-between.

A major draw to CCNY 2024 will be not only the cutting-edge contemporary rug debuts but also a curated selection of one-of-a-kind and vintage pieces. In addition, several exhibitors --such as Momeni, Design Materials and Rebel Carpets -- will feature their latest handcrafted selections of broadloom, which can be custom-sized with a quicker turnaround than the typical custom rug.

Exhibitors are optimistic heading into the fall's second major area rug event. "We continue to double down on the NY COVER Connect show," said HRI's Greg Jordt. "Last year really exceeded our expectations and we are confident that that trend is going to continue. Two of our High Point introductions have become two of our best-selling collections: Nepali and Retro. These two along with our hottest trending current collection, Antique Heriz, will be featured along with some of HRI's one-of-a-kind collector pieces that only a 60-year-old fine rug importer could offer."

David Samad, another repeat CCNY exhibitor, adds, "It’s been a year full of uncertainty for both retailers and wholesalers. The economy seems to be holding up and we feel buyers have more confidence coming into the September market eager to see the latest collections we have to offer. Also, having just returned from India, we are enthusiastically putting our best foot forward and air freighting in spectacular new textures and designs in time for the show, for which we have high expectations.

One of Samad’s favorite 2024 introductions is its Taimany collection featuring whimsically designed one-of-a-kind rugs from Afghanistan in collaboration with ABC Italia. "I recommend buyers come visit our stand to be among the first to select from over 100 cherry-picked rugs.”

Creative Matters also has high expectations for CCNY and the company's Sandra Ciganic-McKinney, creative director, is optimistic about this year's rug market, expecting strong demand driven by the introduction of vibrant colors such as bright buttery yellow, copper, and gold, balanced by grounding neutral tones. She notes that Creative Matters' expansion into these richer, more dynamic colors in line extensions to 2023's top collections such as a line inspired by landscape and mid-century modern design, made by skilled artisans in Afghanistan in 45x45 Persian knot using Ghanzi wool; Vanguard, which pays homage to high art, with silk-rich materials hand-knotted in Nepal; and Arcadian, inspired by Canadian landscapes.

Zollanvari returns for its third CCNY presentation and debuting highlights include Flower Power 5 from the exuberant Flower Power collection, modernist Squares Revisited, and the new Sunset Glow over Reedlands. “Our use of pattern, color and symbolism is constantly evolving. What sets us apart is the active encouragement we give our weavers to allow their own aesthetic sense to shine through the designs,” Reza Zollanvari, group managing director, said.

This year's COVER Connect New York participants are: Akhavan Farshtchi, Amer Rugs, Anadol Rugs, Asha Carpets, Asia Minor Carpets, Banu Home, Battilossi, Bespoke Tibetan Carpet, Caravan, Creative Matters, Creative Touch, Design Materials Inc., Eliko Rug Gallery, French Accents, Galiche Rugs, Harounian Rugs International (HRI), Izza Berber, Jade Industries, Jaipur Living, Kirkit Rugs, Knot & Co., Knots Rugs, label STEP, Lapchi, Lila Valadan, Momeni, New Moon, Pampas Leather, Paulig, Rebel Carpets, Rug & Kilim, Rug Icon, S&H Rugs, Samad Rugs, Satar, Sergio Mannino Studio, STARK/Ashley Stark Home, Sumaq Alpaca, Tamarian, Tibet Rug Company, Tissage, Wendy Morrison Design, Wool & Silk and Zollanvari.
