YAPHANK, N.Y. -- Fiber-Shield Industries Inc., a leading supplier of specialty protection products and related materials, has announced the global availability of its latest super-hydrophobic treatment for carpets and rugs - Karpetcryl® Sisal Stain Repellent - for industry professionals.
This newest carpet protector from Fiber-Shield Industries Inc. comes less than a year after the worldwide debut of Karpetcryl Viscose. It is engineered to bond with each strand of sisal fiber -- unlike other products that slide off. The result is powerful protection against common stains such as wine, coffee, pet accidents and more for this fast-growing market segment.
According to Manny Vickers, president and co-founder of Fiber-Shield Industries Inc., "Karpetcryl Sisal Stain Repellent is a highly-effective, long-lasting solution that builds customer profits and delights end-users," Vickers said. "Here is another proven, high-performance, and safe treatment for professionals in a wide range of channels.
"The recent interest in sisal is based on aesthetic appeal. "Sisal is enjoying a rebound in popularity because it is now available in more colors and designs," said Vickers. "Sisal is extremely absorbent and therefore a good stain repellent will help keep it looking cleaner longer and make maintenance much, much easier."
According to Vickers, super-hydrophobic coatings are ideal for sisal fibers. They form an imperceptible layer of air that makes them extremely difficult to wet since they cause liquids to form beads that sit on the fiber's surface, he said. Since these little beads are not absorbed by the rug fibers, they are easily wiped away.
"Based on our tests comparing it with other products in the marketplace, we have found that our sisal stain repellent provides more water, oil, and stain repellency. We also found that ours was the longest lasting product when subjected to abrasion," Vickers said.
Sisal carpets and rugs have become increasingly popular because of their beauty, strength and durability, according to Vickers. Sisal fibers can be up to three feet long and are sustainably harvested by hand from the leaves of the cactus plant. Sisal is not the same fiber as coir or jute.
Vickers added, "Sisal fibers are strong, but they are also extremely absorbent. This makes liquid penetration and retention far more than what one is used to with other carpets. This high absorbency requires specialized polymer chemistry that is able to reduce that absorbency to near zero so that any spills can be blotted up quickly and efficiently."
As with the original version of Karpetcryl, and Karpetcryl Viscose, the new Karpetcryl Sisal Stain Repellent is effective and safe. All super hydrophobic products made by Fiber-Shield Industries, Inc. contain no PFOs, PFOAs, or PBDEs. Available in five, 30, and 55 gallon containers, Karpetcryl Sisal Stain Repellent Has a shelf-life of up to 36 months.
