WASHINGTON -- Interior designer Anna Kemper has opened her first brick and mortar home decor boutique, Anna Kemper Atelier, located at 1266 5th St. NE.
Anna Kemper Atelier will offer her fresh and layered approach in her custom design services, drawing inspiration from her collection of international and American made goods including home furnishings, lighting, vintage rugs, art and handpicked home accessories.
“If you walk in the shop or look at pictures of spaces I have designed, and you can’t quite put your finger on ‘the style’, then you get my style,” Kemper said. “My aesthetic comes from within, a deeply instinctual creative space, translated into the physical realm – be it your home, your business or the retail shop. Seeing this evolution from creative vision to the tangible world, and especially sharing it with others, is my true calling and passion. I invite all to share it with me.”
Interior Designer Anna Kemper's new home decor boutique features her curated signature style.
The 2,430-square foot space within the Union Market District reflects Kemper's signature aesthetic inspired by her global travels throughout her 20-year career as a professional interior designer. The space will showcase a rotating gallery including works from international and DC-based artists. The gallery launches with the late, French artist, Jacques Rouby whose work is being shown for the first time in the US.
Kemper began her design career in DC, then relocated to Columbia, South Carolina, where she built her portfolio of residential and commercial design projects. Her work has been seen in Elle Décor What's Hot! Shops. With a desire to return to her DC roots, Union Market District was a natural fit to launch her design store.
Anna Kemper Atelier features 2,430 square feet devoted to Kemper's signature aesthetic inspired by her global travels.
"As a small, woman-owned business, I was drawn to Union Market District. It's a place that aligns with my desire to be in an international city, while also working side-by-side with fellow entrepreneurs," she added. "My space will go beyond mainstream design and offer a physical expression of my brand in a neighborhood that has a long standing passion for art and culture."
Anna Kemper Atelier will adhere to DC's social distancing guidelines for non-essential retail businesses during Phase II reopening. Disposable masks and hand sanitizers will be offered to guests when they enter the store.
Vintage, faded Oushak rugs from Turkey have taken up residence at Anna Kemper Atelier.
