LAS VEGAS -- Kalaty Rug Corporation heads to Las Vegas summer market to showcase the newest pieces added to its popular collaboration with renowned Brooklyn-based mural artist Katie Merz. Merz will be in Kalaty's World Market Center showroom, B455, on Sunday and Monday (July 28 and 29) to introduce market-goers to the latest designs in her sportsglyphs rug collection and will treat them to a demonstration of her freehand glyph artistry.

Sportsglyphs, introduced in 2023, has become a favorite with Kalaty clients for its playful sports-themed rugs designed by Merz. With this summer’s Las Vegas Market and Paris Olympics running concurrently, no doubt sports are very much top of mind with fans around the world, so the timing is ideal for Kalaty and Merz to unveil four new popular sports themes – tennis, golf, cycling and football – to the sportsgsglyphs area rug collection at summer market.

Merz's area rug program with Kalaty launched in spring of 2022 with two inaugural collections (artwrks and colorwrks), inspired by her contemporary paintings, and the collaboration added two collections (sportsglyphs and brklynwrks) the following year. Sportsglyphs rugs feature exclusive glyph designs modified in scale and palette for interior furnishings. “We had no doubt these collections would draw a wide audience not only for fans of the artist's popular urban mural artwork but for those looking for something that is truly unique artwork for the floors in their homes," explained Ariel Kalaty, a company spokesman.

“We are eager for our Las Vegas customers to ‘Discover the Kalaty Difference’ through Katie Merz and sportsglyphs as well as through additions to our long-established range of updated-traditional, transitional and modern heirloom-quality area rugs,” added Mike Kalaty.

Merz told RugNews.com, "My signature mural art is created spontaneously and comprises dense glyphs and words in wild orientations, depicting local themes and icons, often relating to the history and culture of the location. The results echo both traditional graffiti and the friezes of classical public buildings -- I love the idea of bringing the outside -- street and park energy -- into a home." She continued, "I enjoy working with a specialist like Kalaty -- they integrate production expertise from around the world with a great design aesthetic, with a product which still has handmade and quirky - not too perfect - qualities."
