LAS VEGAS -- Kalaty Rug Corporation arrives at the summer Las Vegas Market with a range of fresh area rugs in a number of weaves, textures, colors and styles, ranging from high-end hand-knotted transitional motifs to power-loomed contemporary. As excitement builds around the Paris Olympics, Kalaty launches additions to sportsglyphs, the popular licensed power-loomed collection of sports-themed rugs designed by renowned Brooklyn-based visual artist Katie Merz. On Sunday and Monday, July 28 and 29, Katie Merz will meet and greet customers at the Kalaty showroom and demonstrate her unique glyph artistry which led to this exciting rug collaboration.
When sportsglyphs first made its debut one year ago, the collection included three popular themes – basketball, baseball and soccer – all depicting the artist’s distinctive free-hand glyph-art interpretations of each sport. This summer at the Las Vegas show, Katie Merz and Kalaty are unveiling four new sports themes – football, tennis, cycling and golf – bringing the number of sports represented within the collection to seven. Once again Katie Merz’s artwork has been translated into appealing thematic rugs that showcase her spontaneous hieroglyphs that are densely sandwiched together to illustrate the various images, icons, actions, language, energy and essence of each sport.
