LAS VEGAS -- As RugNews.com scoped out the winter edition of Las Vegas Market, execs at rug showrooms across Buildings A, B, and C said that the mood of retailers was optimistic and the excitement among both attendees and exhibitors was palpable. Not only did new introductions go over well with market attendees, at every one of our stops retail buyers and designers were busy placing orders.

In this two-part industry exclusive, tour Las Vegas Market alongside RugNews.com editors to talk with buyers at the show and get a look at their favorite area rugs.

COURISTAN

of the new Reign collection (hanging right) of high-quality Axminister wool and nylon rugs. Shown, design 07

Couristan's latest handmade introductions continue to generate interest among both existing buyers and newcomers stopping by the showroom to learn more. Says Marlys Giordano," Attendance was 'buzzy', with customers excited by the new introductions, especially the hand-knots. It was steady in the showroom throughout the show and many customers commented that they couldn’t believe how much the line has changed and how blown away they are by the new direction." The company spent much of the past two years developing and bringing to market its handcrafted area rugs, which signal a refined strategy in the category. Among the featured favorites is the hand-knotted Hamadan collection of updated traditional Kazak designs in soft neutral colors. These rugs are crafted of wool in an Oushak weave, with a loose knot. Marketgoers were the first to preview Lucknow, which features the same construction as Hamadan. Lucknow reworks classic motifs with bolder colors in the accents paired with grounds in trending neutrals. Another favorite, Desi collection is hand-knotted and reworks motifs such as Ikat and Heriz by blowing up the scale and rendering them in rich on-trend colors.

Couristan also introduced a high-quality machine-woven collection, Reign, cross-woven of space-dyed wool. Reign offers intricate classic motifs in rich colors. For shoppers browsing outdoor rugs the new Joshua collection ticked the box. This lineup is hand-woven of soft PET (high content recycled material) and features soft, organic geometric motifs. Rugs are woven of space-dyed, carded yarns and feature a tactile nubby finish.

"We can offer fashion without having to carry inventory. It’s a fashion accessory," said Kibbe Waters, sales, eastern region, who noted that the company expects Tabrook and Kochi to be 2025 home runs.

The Jax collection also received a positive response from show buyers. These cut and loop pile wool handmade rugs offer a simple linear pattern with variegate colorations featured in the chunky loops.

The line extensions to Dynamic Rugs' popular plush Maasai lineup, which featured geometric motifs in trendy colors including deep green, were a hit with shoppers. Lastly the company previewed Eclipse collection additions of rounds and shapes which customers gave a thumbs up. A high-end machine-woven lineup, Jaxson is made of worsted New Zealand wool, with hand-carved details and a high-low cut pile. More discrete favorites were the new floral additions to the company's Belfort collection of hand-tufted raised ivory patterns on neutral grounds.

HAROUNIAN RUGS INTERNATIONAL (HRI)

HRI's updated traditional designs are driving business as in its Faberge collection of hand-knotted wool rugs.

Harounian Rugs International (HRI) showcased its latest assortment of hand-knotted area rug collections, including Faberge, which offers rich and colorful updated traditional floral designs -- a look that continues to be a top-selling style at the New York-based rug company. However, another showstopper at Las Vegas Market hails from the machine-woven side of HRI's rug assortment. This newcomer is a novel construction that HRI previewed at market and is called Carlton, a luxurious power-loomed wool lineup, which Greg Jordt, EVP, expects to be 2025 winner. This collection of traditional patterns has fringed edges and is crafted in Pakistan. The rugs are finished by hand and receive a luster wash for added softness. Carlton rugs received a very positive response, Jordt said, adding that there is "nothing in the market like it."

HRI also chose to showcase several other collections that offer traditional looks, notably traditional Heriz medallion patterns, including those from its popular Antique Heriz collection, which is a long-running top-selling lineup that is among HRI's highest quality in programmed rugs.

The hand-knotted Scout collection is crafted of 92 percent wool and 8 percent cotton and features an overlapping patchwork style available in three tonal colorways (beige, denim and charcoal).
