To date, 12 Levin Furniture stores have been re-opened in the Ohio and Pennsylvania area, with more planned soon.

SMITHTON, Pa. -- Levin Furniture & Mattress, which originally sold its 35 Ohio and Pennsylvania stores to Art Van Furniture in 2017, has has re-opened twelve locations to date with plans to open another in April, following the reacquisition of the stores by Robert Levin, chairman and the grandson of founder Sam Levin.

Said Levin, who came out of retirement to rescue the stores, “the rebirth of Levin Furniture takes a big step forward. With the reopening of these two stores [at the end of February], the Pittsburgh comeback of our 100 year old company is complete.” Levin, along with brothers, John and Matt Schultz, both of whom now serve as co-CEOs, acquired several Levin stores out from Art Van, after that company filed for Chapter 11 in March 2020.

Art Van Furniture acquired the Levitt properties in late 2017, approximately eight months after its acquisition by Boston-based private equity firm Thomas H. Lee Partners, which took a majority stake in the Michigan company. Some Art Van's properties were subsequently acquired by another private equity player which re-opened them in the summer of 2020 under the Loves Furniture name, shedding the Pittsburgh market and selling those stores Levin Furniture.

“Getting back these Levin furniture stores is very meaningful as it will allow us to continue our mission and long-standing goal of rehiring employees and providing services to our customers and to the communities where we do business," Levin stated, at the time of the purchase of five former Levin stores from Loves Furniture. "It seems fitting and is very gratifying that we were able to accomplish this goal while celebrating our 100th anniversary in the furniture and mattress business.”
