WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Online retailer Rugs Direct has released a new report focused on understanding the most popular interior design styles and ranking them by importance to users of the top search sites for interior furnishings inspiration.
"We thought it would be fascinating to look beyond the yearly trends and measure just how popular the most common styles are, where are they popular, and understand just how much more popular they are in relation to other styles," Myles Felsing, Rugs Direct CEO, told RugNews.com. "We wanted to answer this question with a quantifiable, external resource so that we could bypass internal bias. So, we looked at the places where customers often go for information related to design style -- at YouTube, Houzz, Google Search, Pinterest and Instagram. The wealth of information in each of these places is staggering and points well beyond what was popular in the last year, to what has been a staple in home decor over the last decade."

Rugs Direct, an online e-tailer, analyzed a decade of user interaction across five major interior design hubs to
discover the most popular design styles.
The analysis was based on the five major design inspiration hubs Youtube, Houzz, Google Search, Instagram and Pinterest, and focused on using user interactions -- likes, views, hashtags, searches, and picture uploads -- to quantify which of the 21 styles in the study was the most popular.
In total, about 280 million user interactions over the past decade-plus have been tallied to provide a scoring system to understand how popular each style is, and how their popularity differs between Youtube, Houzz, Google Search, Instagram and Pinterest.

Farmhouse looks ranked No. 3 in Rugs Direct's report, and Surya's Farmhouse Tassels collection design
(FTS-2301) is a top seller in the category on the e-tailer's site.
Farmhouse ranked #3 among all styles while Rustic ranked #4. Thus, Farmhouse is more popular than Rustic, with Farmhouse scoring a total of 5.12 points versus Rustic's 4.06 points.
4. Youtube's Top 5 Styles were: (1) Minimalist, (2) Modern, (3) Rustic, (4) Cottage, and (5) Mid-Century Modern
