NEW YORK -- Surya returns to New York Home Fashions Market in a temporary location at 41 Madison Ave. and reports its new washable, better-quality machine-woven and vintage-styled area rug collections were a success with big box, mass merchant and e-commerce buyers.

"Washables are really important because they're performance related and there is a lot of interest in in how rugs will wear and how they can be cleaned up," said Brandon Culpepper, senior VP of mass merchant sales, Surya. "Washables have opened up new looks because a lot of the technology we are using allows us to do things aesthetically that look really different."

Performance rugs remain a best-seller with big box, mass and e-comm buyers at the Surya showroom, which
featured the new washable Atlanta collection, crafted in a chenille polyester.

For New York Home Fashions Market, to which Surya returned in 2019 after a hiatus, top sellers also included the company's new better-quality machine-woven collections, including Aspendos, Infinity and Reina, all new constructions. Aspendos is a new Oushak-like construction made of space-dyed yarn in chenille polyester with self-fringe. "We are also moving heavily into better quality machine-woven polyester, for example our new Reina and Infinity collections are a new construction of space-dyed polyester," Culpepper noted.

"Another top seller are our updated farmhouse looks. We manufacture wool rugs in India, so we feel like we can relay the same kind of values in a hand-produced wool medium -- it is something we are pushing hard at and one of the things that helps us do that are these chunky woven farmhouse looks that are so big in the market right now. We have several of these collections, including St. Clair, that address the trend and are made by hand and out of wool.

Featuring details and vintage-style Oushak look, Surya's new Aspendos range is machine-made in Turkey with low pile
and self-fringe.

Surya's better-quality machine-made Reina collection is crafted of space-dyed polyester.

The Infinity collection by Surya was a New York Home Fashions market favorite for its high-quality styling.
