HIGH POINT, N.C. -- The Sustainable Furnishings Council (SFC) has elected its incoming Board of Directors for 2021, which also serves as the Board of Sustainable Furnishings Education Fund, the nonprofit organization’s 501(c)(3).

The Sustainable Furnishings Council is a member-based organization committed to improving sustainability in the furnishings industry throughout North America.

Ongoing initiatives for the SFC include certified sustainability training, monthly educational events, a transparent communications program called ‘What’s it made of?’, the annual Wood Furniture Scorecard recognizing top performing retailers, consumer and student resources, and a refreshed SFC Ambassadors program. The SFC board members provide governance and guidance in pursuit of these and other initiatives.

Michela O’Connor Abrams, founder of MOCA+; Nancy Fire, co-founder and creative director of Design Works International; Jennifer K. Harmon, director of business development, Specialty Interiors at Milliken & Company; Michael J. Hirschhorn, founder and OEP of mebl Transforming Furniture; and Jason Phillips, VP and creative director of The Phillips Collection, began three-year terms occupying SFC Board seats, effective January 1.

This year’s SFC Board of Directors includes renewing seats. The slate of 2021 officers of the SFC Board of Directors was confirmed last week, including Abi Sood of Avasa as Board President; Jonsara Ruth of Parsons The New School as Vice President; and Gat Caperton of Gat Creek as Secretary/Treasurer. Each appointment term is for this calendar year.

“The SFC Board and its officers have the experience, perspective and energy to increase the impact we have as an organization,” says Susan Inglis, Executive Director. “I expect 2021 will see us make great strides towards sustaining a healthy future not only for our industry, but also for our customers and families, which is exciting.”
