Area rug exhibitors showcase the latest innovations and design directions for designers and rug buyers heading to High Point Market.

HIGH POINT, N.C. -- Area rug introductions continue to move in lockstep with overall interior design trends, now often leading other home categories in directional colors and styles.

Green, in myriad shades, emerged as a major hit in 2024 and continues to be sought after. Warm earth browns, creams and beiges also remain top sellers, and perennial favorites blue and gray remain omnipresent, but today they’re more often found in accents or paired with warmer tones. Deep moody color palettes are in ascendency with charcoal and midnight blues becoming more prevalent.

In terms of designs, transitional Persian styles remain a proven seller, however, classic decorative movements, such as Art Deco, Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts, continue to gain a foothold with designers and retail buyers. As a counterpoint, geometric patterns inspired by Scandinavian designs are also witnessing a resurgence as the genre gets reworked with fresh textures, yarns, color palettes and weaves. Other trending geometric styles such as tribal looks, Southwest-influenced, and beloved Moroccan patterns will remain a constant for buyers attending fall market.

Contemporary floral and botanical inspired designs, ranging from over-sized and cheery to subtle and abstract, bring a much-needed breath of fresh air to the rug category this fall and are expected to continue to gain in popularity. And a new direction that is emerging is the re-exploration of block print-inspired all-over patterns that are sure to become a favorite at fall market.

Finally, it seems that abstract patterns have become this century’s heirlooms of tomorrow, and fall introductions cement the genre into the annals of design history. Sumptuous painterly abstracts, including delicate watercolor-inspired looks, make a bold and stunning showing. For more demure tastes, there is no shortage of neutral tone-on-tone abstract patterns that receive much of their richness from cutting-edge textures and touches of lustrous fibers.

In the industry's most comprehensive guide to area rug debuts at High Point Market, RugNews.com showcases the innovative introductions kicking off the year’s final selling season. Continue reading Part 2 where we feature rug showrooms from L to U, and don't miss Part 1 for rug showrooms A to K.
