LR Home's Laddha Family Funds New Surgery Center in India

The Laddha family, owners of LR Home, are continuing their long-standing commitment to make a difference in the lives of the people of Mirzapur, India, with the financing of a new surgery center.

DALTON, Georgia – The Laddha family, owners of LR Home, are continuing their long-standing commitment to make a difference in the lives of the people of Mirzapur, India, with the financing of a new surgery center for Ramakrishna Sewashram Hospital.

A hub for the production of rugs and floor coverings in India, Mirzapur is the hometown of S.K. Laddha, founder and CEO of LR Home. “The city offers a number of hospitals, and although its population is about two-million, surgery services were largely unavailable in Mirzapur, or not up to the mark,” explained Laddha. “Patients requiring surgery were required to travel to Varanasi, the closest big city – which is 75 miles away and typically a two-hour trip.”

Named for S.K. Laddha’s mother, Yashoda Laddha, the new surgery center includes four surgery suites. “Mr. Gupta, president of Ramakrishna Sewashram Hospital, put our donation to very good use financing suites for eye surgery, heart surgery, orthopedic surgery, and general surgery.

“Growing up, I didn’t have very much. Today, we have 1500 contract facility workers in Mirzapur producing LR Home area rugs and textile accents. Once I came into a position where I could make a difference, I felt I had to give something back to the community that raised me.”

Paying it forward is not new to LR Home: In 2014, the Laddha family decided to start a school for underprivileged elementary school age children in Mirzapur as well.

Because this community has been underserved by the public school system and only wealthier families can afford to send their children to private schools, the Laddhas decided to open their home to give these children a better foundation in education and to help them grow out of the poverty in which they were born.

One teacher and four students in 2014 has now grown to five teachers and over 90 students, ages 6 through 12. After completing the elementary education at the Laddha School, these students are qualified to attend private secondary school for which the Laddhas will help with tuition. With the growth of India's economy, the opportunity for these children to receive a great education is invaluable. They will now be in a position to go into business, medicine, or whatever field of study they choose.
