The newly released digital edition of Oriental Weavers' 2020 Spring Trends Book identifies five key interior design trends, tying each to area rugs in the company's latest collections

DALTON, Ga. -- Oriental Weavers has released its Spring 2020 Trends Book featuring the company's predictions for colors and designs to watch, and emerging lifestyle decorating directions.

The look book identifies five key interior design trends as interpreted by the OW design team: Imperfect Organic, Artisanal Hand, In Touch, Culture Collaboration and Modern History.

The opening spread in OW's Spring 2020 Trends Book showcases the company's Imperfect Organic trend with area rugs Bowen 1808Q and Evolution 7770J (left page) and Aspen 2050L and Kendall 531X at right.

Each trend is illustrated with room photography and area rugs from the company's collections, as well as descriptive material detailing the designers' insights for retailers. Following are highlights from each trend in the informative and inspirational Spring 2020 forecast:

IMPERFECT ORGANIC

A detail of Oriental Weavers' Imperfect Organic trend illustrates rug finishes and weaving techniques to replicate natural wood and stone. Shown, Evolution collection designs 0978A & 0958A

In Imperfect Organic, OW explains that patterns and colors celebrate the organic contours and irregular surfaces of nature, and interiors take on a rustic appeal by pairing organic abstract patterns with products showcasing clean lines and more refined materials. The trend book shows how product developers in the home segment are experimenting with different finishes and design techniques to replicate the tactile and visual qualities of natural elements such as wood and stone.

The Imperfect Organic trend also encompasses the translation of the ethereal qualities of water and sky to imbue the interior space with a sense of tranquility.

ARTISANAL HAND

Among the many area rugs featured in OW's Artisanal Hand trend are Evolution 8035B, inspired by original artwork, and designs with richly colored layered looks (Capistrano 536A, left; Xanadu 70x bottom right).

For its Artisanl Hand trend OW explores new approaches to pattern making, looking to original artwork for inspiration. Here, the 2020 Spring report showcases influences such as hand-drawn lines and hand painted brushstrokes. Surfaces are reworked to achieve a richly colored and layered look.

Another section illustrates traditional dyeing and printing techniques, such as Japanese Shibori and sumiagashi and Turkish ebru, and presents them in new and different ways as seen in its Xanadu 8020H and Kendall 5570X rugs.

Layering, asymmetry and splicing are explored using color, pattern and texture. Dedication to the appearance of hand-customized products, reflecting the mark of the artist/maker, as consumers seek meaningful pieces to place in their homes. Patterns mimicking hand-worked qualities such as surface-scratched ceramics and painterly prints retain the handcrafted aesthetic, but still make a bold, modern statement.

IN TOUCH

OW's In Touch trend highlights warm natural materials, soft tinted neutrals and authentic crafted looks. Shown, Formations 70003 and Capistrano 524A

Oriental Weavers' take on the Hygge trend is especially apropos during Covid-19 pandemic with home comfort more important than ever before. This trend embodies authentic products that feature warm, natural materials and have a handmade feel to encourage an emotional connection. The look highlights soft and tinted neutrals that are refined, soothing, familiar and reassuring.

In this trend, OW shows that the Scandinavian movement is indeed evolving, now taking influence from minimalist Japanese design and a focus is on honest pieces that are fuss-free, trend-proof and basic.Warm neutrals are key to building a soothing effect and are essential to complement any interior direction as in OW's rugs Heavenly 73402 and Boucle 9221. Enhanced tactility is key -- deep pile rugs build dimensionality and evoke mindfulness.

CULTURE COLLABORATION

Global, bohemian and vintage mash up in Culture Collaboration, an Oriental Weavers trend inspired by a range of cultures and heritage icons. Shown, Henderson 90W, Malabar 45308 and Lilihan 5503M

Renewed interest in vintage furniture and décor is driving the market for mix and match "newstalgia", according to Oriental Weavers' trend report for Spring 2020. In this section of the look book, readers will see high and low pieces in unexpected combinations to capture the spirit of the bohemian aesthetic. Room scenes illustrate how consumers are building personalized bohemian interior spaces by mixing various global craft patterns, colors and materials that are inspired by a range of cultures and heritage icons as can be found in Georgia 8826E and Sofia 85810.

In the Culture Collaboration trend, plaids are deconstructed, reimagined and recolored to give heritage weaves and patterns a modern update. Warmth and comfort are key to the plaid trend -- and the OW design team explains that mixing patterns and styles in a room evokes a sense of community and global awareness within the space.

MODERN HISTORY

Oriental Weavers rugs Maharaja 70W, Malabar 45305 and Savoy 28101 are among many classic but updated designs featured in the company's Modern History trend.

For its Modern History trend, Oriental Weavers celebrates historical architectural decoration with room interiors resonating classical charm in tandem with a contemporary spin. The use of rich materials reflects the heritage and timelessness of the designs in this trend, exemplified in designs from the Lilihan and the Ankara collections.

OW's design team points to an emerging trend within Modern History that they've dubbed Eclectic Manor Interiors: a fusion of modern farmhouse and global traditional styles to create "a simply elegant aesthetic that is warm and welcoming." Another offshoot of Modern History is Townhouse Chic, a variation that feels more refined as it borrows from the traditional and modern farmhouse styles, but leans toward cleaner lines and a greater attention to detail.
