Rug Vendors Heading to New York Market Expect Focus on Value and Fashion to Pay Off

Several surveyed rug exhibitors heading to New York Market Week expect mass merchant and big box buyers to snap up priced-right fashion-right rug debuts.

Rug exhibitors participating in NY Home Fashions Market roll out fresh looks for fall market buyers.

NEW YORK -- Mass merchants and big box buyers participating in New York Market Week, Sept. 16-19, are expected to shop for right-priced merchandise that doesn't skimp on added value or fashion.

Rug vendors homed in on key buying trends with their latest market debuts. Top features include fresh machine-washable collections, easy to decorate with neutrals, constructions with a heavy hand, shaped motifs and wool product to round out assortments.

Among the big news headlines for the fall 2024 edition of market is that Mohawk Home makes a return to the home textiles event for the first time since the closure of the Textile Building at 295 Fifth Ave. Mohawk will feature its value assortment at its corporate office located at 125 W. 25 St., and is expected to showcase its Salt Life rug lineup, which has been featured at Las Vegas and High Point markets to success. The Salt Life program rolled out with a selection of indoor/outdoor rugs and expanded its offering last year to include indoor collections as well. NY Market shoppers, which had turned to Mohawk Home for its assortment of outdoor and utility mats, will be able to review the latest additions to that program as well.

NOURISON HOME

Nourison Home, which presents its offering at 230 Fifth Ave., suite 1305, is bullish as it heads to the final stretch of 2024. "We are expecting a strong market. We are meeting with many of our customers and they’re already expressing interest in our new styles," said Giovanni Marra, VP of marketing and creative at Nourison Home. "Value remains a priority for buyers, and we believe our collections deliver on that with competitive pricing."

Among the highlights expected to perform well are the company's new Washable Decor collection of machine-washable rugs, and its playful shaped polyester tufted rugs with a non-skid back called Marigold. Another budget-friendly option is Millwood, a durable, yet soft collection in a range of styles from stripes to florals. Finally, Nourison Home continues to build on the success of its jute rugs, adding two new natural fiber collections: Fernwood and Baldwin are both offered with non-skid backing, expanding on the company's successful jute category. Lastly for big box and mass merchants seeking step-up product, the new hand-woven Wool Haven collection ticks the box.

ORIENTAL WEAVERS

At the Oriental Weavers showroom, located at 260 Fifth Ave., 11th and 12th floors, fall shoppers can expect dozens of debuts in a range of price points, from entry level up to its high quality machine-woven introductions. Among the trend-forward debuts is the Ethereal collection which features a high-low textured construction with a super soft hand. These rugs are power loomed of 100 percent polyester, with a versatile palette of warm and cool neutrals.

HAROUNIAN RUG INTERNATIONAL
 

HRI debuts the machine-woven Bella collection, crafted of wool, in a traditional, transitional and contemporary styles.

Harounian Rugs International (HRI) is bullish as it preps to greet buyers at its 104 W. 29th St. showroom. The major debut is Bella, machine-made of pure wool in Belgium. "We received a very positive reaction when we previewed the line at summer Las Vegas Market," said Diana Samuels, director of operations, HRI. "It is a great quality that feels great and has the body and look of a handmade rug."

Bella offers a variety of transitional, traditional and contemporary patterns. The collection includes two palettes, one offers monochromatic neutrals of blue, gray and ivory, while the other features classic colors such as reds, blues and beige.


Hand-woven in Belgium and crafted of wool, HRI's Bella is expected to be a market favorite.

SURYA


Surya debuts the machine-washable Alston collection, with a high-end look that mimics hand-knotted designs.

Surya's Satya Tiwari, president, told RugNews.com. "As we look ahead to 2025, we are confident that our momentum [in the mass retail channel] will continue as we develop and deliver even more cutting-edge products specifically tailored to them."

At Surya's showroom at 230 5th Ave., suite 1503, scores of fresh fall products will be introduced to mass merchants and big box buyers. Among the highlights expected to drive sales are new qualities of machine-woven washable rugs (including Alston collection), a full line of tufted utility scatter rugs, and anti-fatigue door mats. In addition, Surya introduces its first licensed rugs alongside social media influencer My Texas House and expands its successful Becki Owens lineup.

LOLOI

"We are expecting a busy market," Loloi's Aaron Miller, vice president, marketing, said. "Retailers are looking for creativity, freshness and innovation. The larger retailers have struggled, but they need to update their assortments."


Loloi's two-story showroom at 260 Fifth Ave. will be filled with newness catering to top trends for big box and mass merchant retailers in a range of price points. Hand-crafted constructions remain popular and Loloi adds the hand-loomed Thorne collection, which offers textured linear style in earthy heathered tones. The mostly-wool hand-tufted Otis lineup, which features rounded edges and loose linear designs, is also expected to be a favorite. For those seeking more affordable pieces, the washable Anniston collection, with its traditional motifs and saturated and distressed tones is anticipated to be a favorite. These durable area rugs are power loomed of polyester in China.

DYNAMIC RUGS

Dynamic Rugs expects the appetite for quality machine-made rugs to continue into Q4. One breakthrough intro is Bliss, a cross-woven lineup with a heavy, high-quality feel. Made of space-dyed polyester, Bliss offers timeless classic, contemporary, and abstract designs, all machine-made in Turkey with exceptional craftsmanship, and featuring cotton backing and fringed borders.

Also expected to be 2024 home run, the high-quality Sterling collection is also machine-made in Turkey. With its heavy feel, the rugs feature a stunning blend of shiny polypropylene and shrink polyester, creating a luxurious high-low texture.


“We have secured promising appointments from big box stores and we are hoping to have a great market,” said Matthew Rouhanian, principal at Dynamic Rugs. “Retailers are always looking for new constructions with rugs, and we are trying to meet this demand with our new collections.”

SAFAVIEH

Look for high design and quality in Safavieh’s New York Market intros at the company’s showroom at 150 Thompson St. in Soho. Among the standouts are the Cabo and Selena collections. Cabo features an array of modern and classic coastal designs flatwoven in a soft synthetic yarn for long lasting beauty.

Selena collection rugs launch in rich tonal colors and chic patterns displaying subtle raised geometric patterns on comfort-soft textures. The line’s ‘penthouse-posh’ style targets the increasingly popular modern trend in home décor.
