CARLSTADT, N.J. -- Color and design trends for home furnishings 2020 reveal a fascinating dichotomy as a new era brings in both novel and nostalgic approaches to design in a new Prints Charming color palette from Pantone, which highlights a global fascination with tattoo art.

According to Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, "The fascination of tattooing as an art form is featured in Prints Charming, a cheeky and irreverent color story where modern day meets old master featured in PANTONEVIEW home + interiors 2020.

Pressman describes Prints Charming colors as, "Creative and confident, a sensual and fun color palette with pure animal magnetism. Reminiscent of historical collages, Prints Charming highlights how the growing interest in tattooing as an art form has grown to the point where patterning in interior textiles can provide inspiration for body art - and vice versa."

Showing that inspiration can come from quite unexpected places, the color palette in Prints Charming refers to a sense of history and tradition, while at the same time introduces a playful co-mingling of traditional themes and modern-day usages.

Featured in Prints Charming is a tapestry from Isabelle Torrelle's collection, "Les Femmes de Delft." With ironic anachronisms and an eye-catching confrontation between highbrow culture and elements of contemporary pop culture, Isabelle Torrelle's second Meisterwerke collection takes Flemish Tapestry to new heights. In 'Les Femmes de Delft', she once again combines weaving and embroidery in striking panels. Besides muffling sounds, they also offer an insightful commentary on our aesthetic history.

Fashionable riffs on tattoo motifs show up equally well in fashion and home product, sometimes in noticeable color and sometimes in minimalist renderings. "We see Popcorn Yellow playfully paired with a pair of floral reds while Bright Cobalt and a ruddy Umber are calmed by a cool mossy Green Bay. The second portion of the palette invites the use of a black and white allover statement introducing a contemporary Jet Black and historically significant Antique White," Pressman says.
